Dr. Mario Ferrón is the Dual Language Director for Uvalde CISD. With more than 15 years of Experience in Dual Language, Dr. Ferrón taught 8th Grade U.S. History in Spanish for eight years at the Pharr, San Juan, Alamo Independent School District (PSJA-ISD) before becoming the Dual Language Coordinator for Secondary Schools, guiding the program’s expansion district-wide. Under his supervision, PSJA became the School District with the widest Secondary School Dual Language Program in Texas, serving more than 6,000 students in eight middle schools and five high schools.
Dr. Ferrón has a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with specialization in Bilingual Studies from the University of Texas - Brownsville and two Masters Degrees in Bilingual Education and History from the University of Texas Pan-American. His academic research overwhelmingly supports what he personally witnessed in the classroom: superior academic achievement exhibited by children participating in Dual Language Instruction. In 2012, Dr. Ferrón’s doctoral dissertation won First Place in the National Association for Bilingual Education Outstanding Dissertation Award and he is a renowned speaker in state and national conferences about Bilingual Education. Born and raised in Mexico, Dr. Ferrón has strong interpersonal and academic communication skills both in English and Spanish, and a strong commitment to work with linguistically and culturally diverse populations.
